当老师近来时，同学们停下来学习

又来了...还是中文的歧义问题，此句有两种译法：

1.When the teacher came in,the students stoped to study.

2.When the teacher came in,the students stoped study(此处是名词，如果没有名词性的动词用动名词形式，eg：stoped fighting).

第一句的意思是停下手中的闹腾开始学习；
第二句的意思是停止学习。

这是故意让同学迷惘的，因为没有上下文是很难翻译的，一般的中国人也不会这么讲。

如果是第一种意思，会说：老师进来了，同学们停下来开始学习。
如果是第二种意思，会说：老师进来了，同学们停止学习。
实际上原句严格意义上是病句。

停下学习when the teacher came in,the students stoped studing.
停下别的事情，去学习when the teacher came in,the students stoped to study.

The students stopped to study when the teacher came in.

这里有一个语法点：
stop to do sth. 停下正在做的其他事，去做另一件事。
stop doing sth. 停下正在做的某事。

when teather come in ,students stop to study

The students stopped to study when the teacher came in.
