最近又读起了美国的短篇小说，目光自然就集中到了我熟悉的名字，欧.亨利和马克.吐温。
和太太聊起来读这两位美国短篇小说巨匠的感受的时候，太太说中文的喜欢读欧.亨利，英文喜欢读马克.吐温。
的确是如此，记得我还在恋爱的时候，我和我的准太太读了几年的王永年翻译的欧.亨利短篇小说选。除了家喻户晓的“麦奇的礼物”，我印象最深的是“红酋长的赎金”“ 幽默家自白”，“双料骗子” “供应家具的房间”。欧.亨利是个讲故事的高手，很短的文字里，故事情节安排的异常精巧，而王永年的翻译，感觉是用汉语完美的解读了欧.亨利。
反过来看另一位在美国被称为“最幽默的人”的马克.吐温，感觉读中文的时候印象并不特别深，最近读起英文的马克.吐温，体会到中文翻译上没有“完美”体现出马克.吐温的语言。
如果选一位中国作家和马克.吐温比较，鲁迅有些相似，但思想精髓不同，鲁迅是幽默加批判，马克.吐温是幽默加调侃。马克.吐温的语言运用的很聪明，是用简朴的语言表达出自己的独特的看法和观点，现在很多美国的幽默都能看到其背后马克.吐温的影子。
