The Boy Hunting Locusts 捉蚱蜢的小男孩
A boy was hunting for locusts. He had caught a goodly number,when he saw a Scorpion, and mistaking him for a locust, reached out his hand to take him. The Scorpion, showing his sting, said:If you had but touched me, my friend, you would have lost me, and all your locusts too!"
有个小孩在城墙前捉蚱蜢,一会儿就捉了许多。忽然看见一只蝎子,他以为也是蚱蜢, 便着两手去捕捉他。蝎子举起他的毒刺,说道:“来吧,如果你真敢这样做,就连你捉的蚱蜢也会统统失掉。”

The Dog and the Shadow 狗和影子
A dog had got a piece of meat and was carrying it home in his mouth to eat it in peace. Now, on his way home he had to cross a plank lying across a running brook. As he crossed, he looked down and saw his own shadow reflected in the water beneath. Thinking it was another dog with another piece of meat, he made up his mind to have that also. So he made a snap at the shadow in the water, but as he opened his mouth the piece of meat fell out, dropped into the water and was never seen more.
一只狗嘴里衔着一块肉,走过一条河上面的桥,看见他自己在水里的影子,以为是另一只狗,那时狗衔着的肉,比他自己的还要大一倍。因此他仍掉自己的那一块,狠狠地扑向那只狗,想夺到那一块较大的肉。结果两头都落了空,因为他想要抓取在水中的那一块,只不过是一个影子,而原来的那一块,也被水冲走了。
Beware lest you lose the substance by grasping at the shadow.
谨记,切莫因追逐幻影而丢失已有的东西。
寡妇与母鸡
有个寡妇养着一只母鸡,母鸡每天下一个蛋。她以为多给鸡喂些大麦,就会每天下两个蛋。于是,她就每天这样喂,结果母鸡长得越来越肥,每天连一个蛋也不下了。
这故事说明,有些人因为贪婪,想得到更多的利益,结果连现有的都失掉了。

A widow keeps a hen,and the hen lays an egg every day. She thought feeding more barley to the hen , the hen will lay two eggs each day. So, she feeds the hen like this every day, as a result ,the hen grows more and more fat, and the hen doesn't lay any more.
This story tell us that some people want to get more interests,for they are greedy, finally, they lose what all they belonged
