Greetings everyone, my name is XX. I'm a fairly quiet person, and might give off a feeling of being reserved at first. However, it's partially due to this nature that I tend to take things more seriously and think before I act. My biggest hobby is reading, followed by badminton. Because I enjoy reading for fun, I tend to read a lot of Chinese books, especially novels. I believe that novels are the most lively and most filled with imagination. My Chinese skills are pretty good, probably due to all the books I've read. In the past, I've entered in speech and writing contests, but regretfully I have yet to win first place. Nonetheless, the experience has taught me a lot about myself, and that inspiration does not count for much without the right words to express it. As the Chinese saying goes, "It is only when it comes time to apply knowledge that you regret not acquiring enough of it." I heard that XX University's Chinese department is excellent, so I'm hoping to study there and deepen my understanding of Chinese history and culture. Eventually, I hope to utilize my skills to make a difference in the area of Chinese. I hope as teachers, you will give me a chance to study here. Thank you all very much.

英文翻译得比较长，但我尽量把句子翻得通顺一点。
有些地方必须采取意译，因为那样会比较恰当地道。

另外一点，英语里没有直接说 thanks teacher，good day teacher，之类的话。
所以像 “各位老师好” 这种话我就翻译成 Greetings, everyone. 那样比较好。
