个人理解如下：
in the network/just two degrees removed from the initial influential都是people的后置定语，prove resistant是谓语（ 这里的prove相当于系动词），当然，这不是一个完整的句子，这只是一个条件状语从句。

虽然不太明白这句话的确切意思（貌似涉及社会学或心理学的一些术语），但我觉得句子的结构是这样的：
If people {in the network [just two degrees (removed from the initial influential)]} prove resistant,...
two degrees removed from...（从...被移开了2个层级）是紧接在network 后边的后置定语，无论从结构上看还是从意思上看都是修饰它的才对。
捋一下整个从句的意思，差不多是：“有这么一个network，它与initial influential存在2个层级的距离，如果处在这个network里的人（被）证明是resistant的，......”
