解析：that 引导的是同位语从句，that起连接词作用，但在句中不作任何成分。

同位语从句成分分析：

the rumor （主语）that （连接词）she would never sing again （同位语）soon （状语）spread（谓语）.

句子主干：the rumor spread.

同位语：the rumor=she would never sing again

that在从句不作成分。

为什么不选which，是因为which在同位语从句中是需要作句子成分的，例如：

I have no idea which one I should choose. 我没有主意该选哪个.

idea=which one I should choose. which 作的是主语的定语。（这里是代词主语）
