地基变形在其表面形成的垂直变形量称为建筑物的沉降量。在外荷载作用下,地基土层被压缩达到稳定时基础底面的沉降量称为地基最终沉降量。地基沉降的原因有:结构物的荷重产生的附加应力、欠固结土的自重、地下水水位下降和施工中水的渗流。建筑地基基础设计规范规定,对于一些地基除进行承载力计算外,还需进行变形量计算,计算的目的是保证由于地基沉降而引起的建筑物上部结构的变形不出现妨碍使用的裂缝。在荷载作用下,地基土体发生变形,地面产生沉降。沉降可分为瞬时沉降、固结沉降和次固结沉降三种。

(1)瞬时沉降是指加载瞬间发生的变形。在靠近基础边缘应力集中部位,地基中会存在剪应变。对于饱和土或者接近饱和的黏性土,加荷载的瞬间土中水来不及排出去,剪应变引起侧向变形,从而造成瞬时沉降。

(2)固结沉降是由饱和土或者接近饱和的黏性土在荷载作用下,超静孔隙水压力消散,有效应力增加,土体体积压缩引起的。

(3)次固结沉降是由超静孔隙水压完全消散以后,土中结合水膜或土粒发生蠕变而引起的。也就是说,在有效应力不变的情况下,土的骨架仍然随着时间变化继续发生变形。
