variants和variables有什么区别

学习英语，就要善于去研究英语解释，那样，不管什么样的同义词都可以迎刃而解。
这两个词不一定非要用复数形式，单数形式比较多，而且一般情况下是不能随便替换的，下面就看单数形式的区别：
1. variant: something that is different from the usual form of something, although it is related to it(跟某种东西平常的样式不同的东西，尽管这种不同的东西跟平常的东西有联系)变体；变种；变化形式
There are so many variant spellings of his name.他的名字有很多不同的拼写形式。
The quagga was a strikingly beautiful variant of the zebra.斑驴是一种极美丽的斑马变种。
An intriguing variant to pipelines would be to carry the water using the existing system of canals.除用管道外，利用现有的运河系统来输送水也很值得一试。

2. variable:

❶ a factor that can change in quality, quantity, or size, which you have to take into account in a situation(在质量、数量或大小方面能够发生变化的因素，在某种情形下该因素必须加以考虑的)质量、数量、规模等的可变因素
Decisions could be made on the basis of price, delivery dates, after-sales service or any other variable.购买决定可能会基于价格、送货日期、售后服务以及其他可变因素。

Other variables in making forecasts for the industry include the weather and the general economic climate.对该产业进行预测时还要考虑天气和宏观经济环境等其他不确定因素。

❷ a quantity that can have any one of a set of values(一组数值中的任何一个量)变量；变项；变元
It is conventional to place the independent variable on the right-hand side of an equation.普遍做法是把自变量放在等式的右边。
