“silent”和“silence”的区别是什么？

主要是形容词和名词的区别，不过silence还能做动词：

silent   

adj. 形容词

1.寂静的; 无声的 

The cat moved on silent feet.
那只猫无声地走动着。 

2.沉默的 

He is a silent type.
他是个沉默型的人。 

3.不发音的 

The “e” in “ time” is a silent letter.
time中的e不发音。 

silence   

n.名词 

1.寂静; 无声 

Now and then a bird's song broke in upon the silence of the wood. 鸟鸣声不时打破林中的寂静。 

2.沉默 

What is the reason for your long silence?
你长时间沉默的原因是什么? 

3.无音信, 失去联系 

Forgive me for my long silence.
请原谅我好久没给你写信。 

4.寂静[沉默, 无音信]的时刻[期间] 

Let's observe a minute's silence in memory of the dead. 

让我们为死者静默一分钟。

vt.动词 

使安静, 使沉默
The arrival of the teacher silenced the class. 

教师的到来使全班安静下来。

知识扩展：

其他区别.

前者侧重寂静无声，后者表示安静平静。

形容人物的时候，前者是沉默的;寡言的;不作声的意思。

例如

He was silent for a moment.
他沉默了一会儿。

后者是文静的,温和的意思。

例如

He was a quiet man who didn't let small things upset him.
他是个性格平和的人,从不为小事生气。

区别：表示平静的话只能用后者。前者静的程度较后者更深。
