Bis-quaternary ammonium salts are a serial of novel-structured gemini surfactants being synthesized by connecting two amphipathic groups at or near the terminals via spacer group. This special chemical structure, having broad applied prospect, gives them higher surface activity, broad bioactivities, and other unique physical & chemical properties. This paper mainly studied the synthesis and characterization of some dissymmetric bis-quaternary ammonium gemini surfactants, then determined the surface tensions of their water solutions, finally calculated their critical micelle concentrations and build a surface tension-concentration model. All the three quaternary ammonium gemini surfactants, typed 12-3-16, 12-3-12, and 8-3-12, respectively, had fairly high surface activity, and they could reduce the surface tension of water to 20-35mN*m-1 at 25℃. The critical micelle concentrations of quaternary ammonium gemini surfactants typed 12-3-16, 12-3-12, and 8-3-12 were 0.794mmol*L-1, 0.398mmol*L-1, and 0.199mmol*L-1, respectively.
