从前有一个牧民，养了几十只羊，白天放牧，晚上赶进一个用柴草和木桩等物围起来的羊圈内。

Once upon a time, there was a herdsman who raised dozens of sheep and herded them by day and drove them into a sheepfold surrounded by firewood, grass and wooden stakes at night.

一天早晨，这个牧民去放羊，发现羊少了一只，原来羊圈破了个窟窿，夜间有狼从窟窿里钻了进来，把一只羊叼走了。

One morning, the herdsman went to look after the sheep and found that one of the sheep was missing. A hole had been broken in the sheepfold.

邻居劝告他说: 赶快把羊圈修一修,堵上那个窟窿吧。

The neighbor advised him to repair the sheepfold and plug up the hole.

他说：“羊已经丢了，还去修羊圈干什么呢？”没有接受邻居的好心劝告。

He said: the sheep has been lost, but also to repair the sheepfold why? He didn't take his neighbor's good advice.

第二天早上，他去放羊，发现又少了一只羊。原来狼又从窟窿里钻进羊圈，又叼走了一只羊。

这位牧民很后悔没有认直接受邻居的劝告，去及时采取补救措施。于是，他赶紧堵上那个窟窿，又从整体进行加固，把羊圈修得牢牢实实的。

The herdsman regretted that he had not been directly advised by his neighbors to take remedial measures in a timely manner. Therefore, he quickly plugged up the hole and reinforced the sheepfold as a whole.

从此，这个牧民的羊就再也没有被野狼叼走过了。 

From then on, the herdsman's sheep was no longer diao by the Wolf.

牧民的故事告诉我们：犯了错误，遭到挫折，这是常见的现象。只要能认真吸取教训，及时采取补救措施，就可以避免继续犯错误，遭受更大的损失。

Never too old to learn, never too late to turn.亡羊补牢，为时未晚。 Once upon a time,there was a shepherd who kept some sheep.He herded them outside in daytime;at night,he drived them in the sheepfold which was inclosed by hays and pegs etc.
One morning,the shepherd went to herd sheep and found one sheep lost.He then discovered that the sheepfold had been broken,and the wolf must had thieved the sheep through the hollow.
"You'd better repaire the sheepfold and plug up the hollow as soon as possible!"Neighbours advised him.
"The sheep has been lost,why should I reparie the sheepfold?" He didn't accept the neighbour's kind suggestions.
The next morning,he went to herd and found another sheep lost.The wolf had again did it.
The shepherd now regreted for not taking neighbour's advice and taking remediations in time.So he stifled the hollow soon,and reinforced the whole sheepfold ,and made the sheepfold so substantial.

The King of Chu flew into a rage. "How dare you! You even use such vicious words to curse my country and mean to arouse resentment among the people!" Zhuang Xin explained, "I dare not curse the State of Chu. But I really have a premonition that Chu is facing great danger." Seeing that the king is especially fond of those corrupt officials and trust them in everything, the minister thought Chu is bound to extinct. So he asked the king to let him leave Chu. He wanted to go to the State of Zhao and stay there for a while.
The king gave him the leave.
Five months later, the King of Qin sent his troops to invade Chu and occupied a large tract of its territory. The King of Chu himself went into exile. Now, the king remembered Zhuang Xin’s words. He sent his men to fetch him. When the king saw Zhuang Xin again, he asked him, "What can I do now?"
Zhuang Xin replied, "It’s not too late if you mend the sheepfold when you find a sheep is missing." He then made some good suggestions to rehabilitate the state and recover the lost land. The king was very much pleased.
The idiom "Mend the fold after a sheep is lost" has developed from Zhuang Xin’s answer to the king.
