People nowadays are becoming increasingly isolated from each other. They no longer interact with their neighbours. In fact, many do not even know the people who live closest to them. Why?

The young people of our generation oftern see themselves as the centre of the world. They have little regard fot the opinions and needs of others. Moreover, there is a lack of trust in the society as frauds and thieves are commonplace. People are unwilling to risk their security by trusting someone they do not know. So people may not see the need to know their neighbours since they cannot be trusted anyway.

Another reason may be that the lifestyle of the common person has chenged drastically due to new technologies and new working patterns. The work place is becoming more fast paced and demanding, often requiring people to sacrifise their own personal time in order to solve problems from work. This puts a lot of pressure on them and also decreases their time to communicate with their neighbours and friends. New technologies also open up new ways to communicate. People now prefer chatting online or over the phone to talking face to face. Therefore, they can talk to their friends who live far away whenever they want, instead of neighbours being the only available people to talk with. Also, with the TV and internet, people choose to spend their spare time watching films and dramas alone instead of communicating with others.

Due to these reasons, the people nowadays are becoming more and more detatched from their neighbours.
