Self-employment
Job hunting has always been a headache for college students. Though many graduates are employed right after graduation, some are not. Most serious of all, some still have no idea where to go working even a long time after graduation. So be oneself's boss is a good ideal which is encouraged by the state.
One of the advantages of being selfemployed is that the profit the business makes belongs to the owner. If the self-employed person succeeds in business, he has the chance to earn a great deal of money. The profit earned is the reward for the owner's effort, ability and creativity. Thus, a second
advantage is that a person's intelligence and abilities have a direct effect on the earnings. A third advantage of being self-employed is that a person can control his working hours. While not all self-employed people are completely free, most of them have more control over this area than the salaried
people.
However, being self-employed is not without problems.First, being one's own boss places the responsibility directly on that individual's shoulders. Everyone has some weaknesses in some things. These weaknesses will affect how successful a self-employed person is. Second, though the self-employed can earn considerable profits with a successful business, losses can force them out of business and sometimes, place them in debt. A third disadvantage concerns income security. Self-
employed people have no guaranteed wage. Their earnings can vary greatly, depending on business conditions. Salaried people, however, can generally count on continued earnings. In addition, salaried people often enjoy fringe benefits that mean greater peace of mind. One of these benefits may be in-
surance paid for by the employer that continues the employee's salary in the event of sickness or accident while many self-employed people do not have such protection.
Should College Graduates Start Their Own Business?
With the competition in the job market becoming increasingly fierce for college graduates, some ambitious students have tried their hands at launching their own businesses. Over the years, there have been many successful cases of student entrepreneurship and such attempts should be encouraged and promoted by both the universities and the society at large.
College students who start businesses are pioneers, among whom will be born China’s future business leaders. Faced with unknown challenges, they are audacious enough to embark on a perilous journey while most of their peers enjoy stable salaries by working as white-collars at high-end office buildings. Nevertheless, they are the masters of their own destiny and, exposed to many more uncertainties and setbacks, they develop perseverance, stamina and the indomitable spirit that are indispensible to all the great entrepreneurs. Even if they fail, they are not down; they keep exploring for new business opportunities and work tirelessly until they succeed. As people of vision, of individual initiative, of leadership, and of creativity and innovation, they represent the future and the hope of a nation.
Not all college graduates are suitable for undertaking entrepreneurial projects. To launch a business, one needs to have a sound business idea, a viable business plan, the charisma to create a cohesive team where members make concerted efforts for a common objective, effective managerial skills, and above all, the courage to compete against powerful rivals and ultimately to prevail. The essential difference between the students who become civic servants in government organizations or employees at leading domestic or multinational companies and those who create their own businesses is that the former are docile followers whereas the latter are aggressive trailblazers. For this reason, business-launching college graduates are more admirable, and thus they command our deep respect.
As we know, nowadays many college students start their own business, and it's been always encouraged by our country.
Some people think it is very helpful for college students. First of all, students in colleges need to be very independent. They think doing business by themselves may help them cultivate independence. Secondly, they will be braver if their choice is supported by country. Thirdly, some of them might be lack of money, with the financial help of the country, they can start business more easily and freely.
On the contrary, some people don't consider it a good idea for country to encourage college students like this. Firstly, they hold the opinion that college students should concentrate more on studies, instead of doing business.Second of all, they think students cannot do business well, they haven't much experience.
I think we should pay attention to studies first.
