fall 表示落下,跌落,降落等时,通常指,在重力的作用下落下,或者失去平衡而跌落。fall由此引申出来的意思,比如垮台,失去地位等。而且此时fall一般只作为不及物动词使用。比如:

The table fell off the table onto the floor.
The government fell after the revolution.那场革命后政府垮台了。
drop 表示降落,落下时,通常暗含有是一种意外的意味。drop既可以是及物动词也可以是不及物动词。
The bottle dropped and broken.
The climber slipped and dropped to death.攀登者一失足摔死了。
Don't drop that bottle or it'll break.别把瓶子弄掉了,不然会摔破的
另外要注意,fall可以替代drop,比如:
The climber slipped and fell to death.攀登者一失足摔死了。
drop和fall都可以作名词,drop当名词讲时,表示“(液体的)珠,滴”比如:drops of rain,雨滴drops of sweat,汗滴
fall当名词讲表示降落,落下(另外也当秋季讲) 比如:
I had a fall from the horse and broke my arm.我从马上摔下来把胳膊摔断了。
